How To Know If Arm Lift Surgery Is Right for You

The ideal candidate for arm lift surgery will meet the following conditions:

  • Carry excess skin on the upper arms and have a strong desire to eradicate this problem
  • Capable of understanding the risks of surgery
  • Be able to understand that arm lift surgery will create visible scars
  • Be a non-smoker or quit smoking well in advance of surgery (smokers can experience complications related to healing)

For the right candidate, the arm lift scars will be an acceptable condition in order to realize the benefits of a more attractive upper arm shape. Ask Dr. Setty more about this topic if scars are a major concern for you.  There are several options to help improve the appearance of scars including a novel scar reduction product called Embrace.

How an Arm Lift Is Performed

An arm lift may be performed as a standalone procedure or as part of a complete body lift, which is designed to tighten and reduce excess skin in several body areas.

Arm lift surgery requires an incision on the back of each arm traveling from elbow toward the armpit, which will vary in size depending on the conditions of each patient. Dr.Setty will remove a certain amount of skin and tissue from each arm in order to achieve the intended result. Sutures will be placed to close the incisions and maintain the new form.

Sometimes, liposuction is also performed to the arms at the same time.  Liposuction is done when there are also excess fat deposits to the arms along with excess skin.  Dr. Setty will discuss if liposuction is needed during your consultation.

After surgery, you will be instructed to keep your arms elevated and wear compression sleeves in order to reduce swelling and expedite the recovery period. Most Texas arm lift patients return to work in 1-2 weeks and may resume exercise and other strenuous activities within 4-6 weeks.  While immediate improvement will be visible, the final results will be seen after 3 months.
