How to know if BOTOX® Cosmetic is right for you
People use BOTOX® Cosmetic to treat facial wrinkles that are caused by muscle action on their faces. If you’re constantly frowning or squinting, wrinkles will eventually form on your skin and become permanent (static) wrinkles. If you’re just beginning to see lines and wrinkles on your forehead or around your eyes, it may be a good time to investigate treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic.
How BOTOX® Cosmetic cosmetic works
BOTOX® Cosmetic is something called a neuro-muscular wrinkle blocker. The composition of BOTOX® Cosmetic includes a miniscule amount of the botulinum toxin. When injected, the product inhibits the release of acetylcholine, a process that effectively blocks the contraction of facial muscles in localized areas. As those small facial muscles relax in the days following your treatment, lines and wrinkles gradually flatten out and become unnoticeable. Injections are relatively comfortable; if necessary, a numbing cream can be used, but most treatments do not require it. The injections are done very quickly. Typically, most patients will begin to see results about 2-7 days after treatment. Side effects are very minimal and you can return to most normal activities right after the injection.
