How Breast Implant Repair Is Performed

The techniques used during this type of surgery will vary depending on the reasons for the repair. In many cases, your plastic surgeon will approach the breast implant through the same incision used during the first procedure.  If there is excess skin, sometimes a breast lift will be needed.  If the original implants were placed above the muscle, Dr. Setty will often switch them to below the muscle especially if capsular contracture is present.

The surgery is often performed as an outpatient procedure and can take anywhere from 1-4 hours to complete.  The incisions are usually closed with absorbable sutures.  A drain may or may not be placed.  You will usually be placed in a postoperative compression bra that will need to be worn for 4-6 weeks.  Time off from work will usually be around 1 week and there will be some limitations in activity for up to 6 weeks.  Final results will be visible by 3 months after surgery.

Manufacturers of breast implants have warranties protecting their products. The warranty may cover costs of the breast implant and sometimes even the cost of surgery should you require a revision to repair leaking, ruptured or otherwise defective breast implants.
